Griffins Sack Tigers, Jimenez Scores Only Goal in One-Sided Affair

Lafayette Hill, Pa. - (9/13/2019) – Chestnut Hill College peppered the Salem International University keeper with 39 shots, but they only need one to get by as sophomore forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.) deposited the lone goal of the game in the Tiger net at 35:42 of a 1-0 final. The Griffins took 22 shots in the first half and another 17 in the second half, controlling the contest with a 39-7 shot advantage.

Salem International University (0-4) recorded the first shot of the contest just 2:23 after the opening kickoff, but Chestnut Hill College (2-1) took the next 10 and eventually broke the Tiger defense with Jimenez's tally at 35:42 (1-0). Unfortunately, the Griffins were not able to cushion their advantage as freshman Chelsea Cordice (?) logged two saves before halftime and five more in the second half to keep the contest competitive for the remaining 54:18. Senior midfielder Tamara Queiroz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) hoped to reward Cordice for her effort, but the Chestnut Hill College goalkeepers denied the only four shots they needed to in order to keep the scoreboard clean.

Queiroz recorded five of Salem International University's seven shots. The other two shots came from sophomore midfielder Arianna Villalobos (San Antonio, Texas) and junior defender Kaylee Caswell (Chino Hills, Calif.). Cordice finished the affair with 14 saves.

Jimenez was responsible for 16 of Chestnut Hill College's 39 shots. Five others took multiple chances, while senior defender Elizabeth McCormick (Philadelphia, Pa.), senior midfielder Sabrina Shinkowitz (Stratford, N.J.), freshman defender Josie Wilson (Mantua, N.J.), and senior defender Madison Slemmer (Hatboro, Pa.) recorded one shot apiece. Both junior goalkeepers, Amanda Ianniciello (Milton, Ontario) and Paris Banks (Philadelphia, Pa.), made two saves and earn a share of the shutout. Ianniciello earned the win (2-1) with her scoreless first half.

Chestnut Hill College continues their schedule on Wednesday, September 18, with a 1:30 p.m. contest at the New York Institute of Technology.
