MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (3/6/2020) – After rain washed out Thursday's games, Chestnut Hill College softball returned to the field at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic for a doubleheader against Shawnee State University (2-1) and Barton College (7-9).
The Griffins (1-5) forged a comeback in its game against Shawnee State and held an early lead against Barton College, but the Bears prevailed, 6-3, thanks to a strong sixth inning and the Bulldogs found its groove later in the game to take a 4-1 win.
Game One
Shawnee State tallied four hits in the second inning, eventually using a single from senior infielder Ashtyn Saunders to take a 1-0 lead. They doubled that lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with back-to-back doubles from freshman catcher Andrea Little and sophomore outfielder Ashton Rankin.

Emma Peterson (Reading, Pa.) got the Griffins on the board with a solo shot over the center field wall to start the fifth inning. They would tie the game later that inning, as sophomore outfielder
Taylor Carter (Fort Washington, Pa.) recorded a double with two outs before senior utility
Alessandra Messina (Ambler, Pa.) drove her in with an RBI triple.
The Bears answered the run in the bottom of the sixth inning, notching four runs off five hits and an error to firmly grab control of the game. Chestnut Hill College made a late charge, loading the bases in the final inning and scoring a run of a sacrifice fly from junior outfielder
Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.). It wouldn't be enough, with the Griffins falling by three.
Game Two
The Scarlet and Gold struck first against Barton College, starting a two-out rally with a triple from senior utility
Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.) before she was driven in on the next at-bat by junior designated player
Gabrielle O'Byrne (Moorestown, N.J.) on an RBI single.
The Bulldogs tied the game in the second inning on a throwing error. They would take the lead in the fourth inning, scoring two runs off two hits to make it a 3-1 ballgame. Barton College added an insurance run on an RBI double from sophomore Mikayla Rose in the sixth inning and the Griffins didn't have an answer late, falling again by three runs.
