Lakewood, N.J. - (3/20/2021) – Today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Georgian Court University remained scoreless through the opening 57 minutes. Unfortunately, the stalemate broke in the Lions' favor as a bad attempt Scarlet and Gold clear gave the home team the game's lone goal, 1-0 (57:24). Georgian Court University held a narrow 19-17 shot advantage over Chestnut Hill College, but put many more of theirs on goal as senior goalkeeper Amanda Ianniciello (Milton, Ontario) made 10 saves to keep the contest close.
Georgian Court University (1-1, 1-1) controlled the early action, but Ianniciello was on her game. With four big saves she stemmed the tide and helped Chestnut Hill College (0-3, 0-3) possess the ball just past the 25-minute mark. Unfortunately, Scarlet and Gold shots from junior forward Maddie Jimenez (Bensalem, Pa.), junior defender Bri Hewlett (North Wales, Pa.), and freshman midfielder Molly Killion (Philadelphia, Pa.) missed their mark. The momentum swung again just before the 32-minute mark with the Lions keeping the pressure on the Scarlet and Gold until halftime.
Chestnut Hill College opened up the second half with a series of shots, but Georgian Court University was able to ward them high and wide. In response, the Lions put two shots on the Griffins before a broken play gave sophomore midfielder Aliya Canfield (Beachwood, N.J.) the opportunity to score, 1-0 (57:24). The Griffins outshot the Lions the rest of the way, but were never able to crack the shutout.
Junior forward Krystal Hund (Toms River, N.J.) led Georgian Court University with five shots. Canfield offered three shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Dias (Bayville, N.J.) recorded one save in the win (1-1).
Jimenez led Chestnut Hill College with eight shots; additionally, two apiece came from Hewlett, Killion, and sophomore forward Riley Regan (Philadelphia, Pa.), while three others took one apiece. Ianniciello (0-3) made eight of her 10 saves in the opening frame.
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, March 23, when they host Nyack College in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
