Horner and Petroski Homer, But Eagles Advance To CACC Softball Semifinals

Waterbury, Conn. - (5/7/2021) – Senior centerfielder Devon Horner (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) homered with two out in the first inning and junior shortstop Madison Petroski (Sicklerville, N.J.) took one deep with two out in the third inning, but #5 Post University prevailed in today's Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Quarterfinal with seven runs between the fourth and sixth innings; 10-2 (6). The home runs were the only two hits for Chestnut Hill College, while senior Julianna Barry (Northridge, Calif.) kept the contest close through the first three frames.

Horner put Chestnut Hill College (3-27) in the lead with her second-inning home run, 1-0. Post University (19-9) answered with a pair of runs in the second inning, 2-1, but Petroski's blast brought all things even again in the top of the third inning, 2-2. Afterwards, the Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the frame, 3-2, before getting to Barry for three runs in the fourth, 6-2, and Griffin bullpen for three runs in the fifth inning, 9-2, and another in the sixth; 10-2.

The Scarlet and Gold had a runner in scoring position during their final at-bat. An Eagle error at short, Petroski's aggressive base running, and ground out from sophomore second baseman Samantha Toro (Brick, N.J.), put a Griffin on third base. Unfortunately, Petroski was caught a little too far off base and was forced out at home for the game's final out.

Chestnut Hill College finishes the 2021 season with a 3-27 overall record and a 2-22 CACC standing. Thursday's (May 6) 9-5 Opening Round victory over #4 Jefferson was Chestnut Hill College's first postseason victory as members of the CACC and since joining the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II in 2008.
