Griffins Lose Hard-Fought Match to Purple Knights in CACC Championship Game

Playing in the first ever Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Championship game, The Griffins of Chestnut Hill college faced a daunting task as they face top seed University of Bridgeport with a conference title and automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on the line.

The sixth seeded Griffins played a hard-fought match, but in the end it was the Purple Knights who emerged victorious with a 2-0 win Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field on the campus of Holy Family University.

Four Chestnut Hill players were named to the All-Tournament team for their performance throughout the Griffins three games of the tournament:  forwards Madeline Jimenez and Rebecca Dalton and midfielders/backs Molly Killion and Elizabeth Deal.

Bridgeport had three shots on goal in the first 12 minutes of play and unfortunately for the Griffins scored on two of them, giving the Purple Knights all the offensive output they needed.

The Griffins settled down after the first two goals and did not allow another score for the remaining 78 minutes.  CHC's offense, however, was also unable to find the back of the net as the game progressed.

Lauren Sullivan had the first shot on goal for the Griffins late in the seventh minute but it wasn't until the 54th minute that the Griffins were able to put another on net, this one from Jimenez.

In total, Chestnut Hill finished with 11 total shots with two shots on goal.  Kaitlyn Carter made six saves in net for the Griffins.

The Griffins conclude their season with a 9-6-5 record.  Their nine wins are the most in a season by the program since 2011 when the team went 9-10 and lost in the first round of the CACC tournament.  Five ties on the season is also a program record.
