Griffins Sweep Post in CACC Semis to Clinch Spot in Championship Match

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis team secured their spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championship match on Tuesday, defeating #3 Post University 4-0  in the conference semi-finals at the CHC Tennis Courts in Philadelphia.

The second seeded Griffins will now play #1 seed Jefferson University for the conference championship on Friday, April 22, 2022 on their home courts, beginning at noon.  The Griffins are now 11-4 on the season while Post concludes their season at 6-15.

The Griffins wasted no time in securing their first point of the match winning the first two doubles contests.  The #2 doubles team of Noah Cutting (Bury St. Edmonds, England) and Mark Gladkyy (Vineland, N.J.) scored a 6-1 win over Nino Krneta and Gustavo Kerber for the first doubles win and clinched the point as Tom Pitchley (London, England) and Joseph Gregory Kvint (Huntington Valley, Pa.) defeated Cooper Smith and Anton Andersson 6-3 at #1 doubles.

With the doubles point secure, the Griffins needed to win just three of the six singles matches to advance to the championship.  The weather however forced several rain delays and it wasn't until some four hours after the match started that the Griffins collected their final point to win the match.

Cutting made the score 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Krneta at #2 singles before the last rain delay.  When play finally resumed Joao Sousa (Figueroa de Foz, Portugal), who was just a few points away from victory before the delay, finished his match, defeating Jose Nunez 6-2, 6-1 at #4 singles, giving the Griffins a 3-0 lead.

Kvint was the next closest to finishing his #3 singles match with Smith, taking the first set 6-3 before Smith forced a tiebreaker in the second.   Neither player gained a big advantage in the tiebreaker and the game was deadlocked at 6-6 before Kvint captured the final two points to take the match 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), giving Chestnut Hill the 4-0 win.
