The Chestnut Hill College Softball team concluded their 2022 season Saturday afternoon with University of the Sciences completed a two game sweep of the Griffins 4-3 and 5-0.
The Griffins finish with a 9-39 overall record and a 3-21 mark in Central Atlantic collegiate Conference games. The Devils are now at 15-29 overall and 12-12 in CACC games.
In the opener, the two teams took a 1-1 game into extra innings with the Griffins scoring twice in the eighth inning to lead 3-1. Griffins pitcher
Madison Petroski (Sicklerville, N.J.) quickly got two outs in the bottom of the eighth before the floodgates opened as the Devils had five straight hits and scored three times to win the game. Petroski finished the season with a 5-16 record.
Kayla Rolon (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove in two of the three runs, had three hits in the game and scored one run.
Rolon scored the first Griffins run on a throwing error as Chestnut Hill took a 1-0 lead in the second. Sciences tied the game in the sixth and the game remained tied at 1-1 heading into extras innings. In the eighth inning, Rolon delivered a two-out double scoring
Steph Tonuci (Barrington, N.J.) and
Ariana Carreno (Pompano Beach, Fla.) with the go-ahead runs.
USciences strung together three doubles and two singles with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning to complete the comeback win.
In the second game,
Lily Reid (Texas City, Texas) gave up five runs on eight hits as the Devils shutout the Griffins 5-0 and complete the sweep. Reid walked on and struck out
one
. Skyler Cunningham (Covina, Calif.)  had two of the Griffins four hits.
