Nationally Ranked Millersville University scored two second half goals breaking a 2-2 tie as they went on to hand the Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team a 4-2 loss in their home opener Saturday at victory field in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.
The Griffins fall to 0-2 on the season. Millersville, ranked #6 in the United Soccer Coaches poll improves to 2-1-1.
The Griffins got goals from
A.J. McIntyre (Hanover, Jamaica) and
Juan Molina (Gaithersburg, Md.)Â with both tallies tying the score at 1-1 and 2-2 respectively.Â
Juan Ortiz (Cali, Columbia) had the assist on both goals.Â
Stephen Connor (Riverton, N.J.) made seven saves in goal for the Griffins.
Millersville scored first off a wild play from a free kick just outside the box when a header shot hit the crossbar and bounced right onto the foot of Zander Leik who put it past Connor for a 1-0 lead at the 12:32 mark.
Less than three minutes later McIntyre got the equalizer taking a pass from Ortiz and driving down past the defender on the left side before finding the right corner of the net to tie the game at 1-1.Â
A successful penalty kick from Millersville put the Marauders ahead late in the first half and the Griffins trailed 2-1 at halftime.
The Griffins wasted little time in evening up the score as Ortiz found Molina onside and ahead of the field in the opening minute of the second half. As the Millersville goalkeeper was coming out to defend the play, Molina put the ball over his head and into the net for the game tying goal.
The Marauders broke the tie in the 54
th minute and added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute to rounds out the scoring.
The Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer Team is back in action on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 when they host Saint Thomas Aquinas College at victory field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
