Second Half Goal Gives Lightning Win over Griffins

Goldey-Beacom College scored two unanswered goals as they rallied to defeat the Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team 2-1 Wednesday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.

The Griffins falls 2-5-2 overall and 1-3 in Central Atlantic collegiate conference games.  The Lightning improve to 3-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league play.

Chestnut Hill's offense was clicking early on with three early shots on goal Diego Cabrera connecting for the score on the third to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead at the 8:54 mark.  Diego Rodriguez took the ball up top and found Cabrera open down low on the left side for the score.

The Griffins had two more opportunities with a pair of shots from Juan Ortiz but were unable to convert.  The Lightning then tied the game at the 16:59 mark.   Chestnut Hill continued to push the offense, outshooting the Lightning 12-3 in the period as they went into halftime tied at 1-1.

The Lightning scored the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute on a shot from Eduardo Coimbra and made it stand for the victory.

For the game, the Griffins outshot the Lightning 17-8 (12-5 on target).  Ortiz finished the game with seven shots on goal and 12 total shots.  Cabrera and Jorge Mendez had two shots on goal apiece.  CHC goalkeeper Eran Shifris made three saves.

The Chestnut Hill College Men's Soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 for a game at Caldwell university.  This game is a make-up of the game that was postponed on September 23, 2023.  Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
