Diego Cabrera made an emergency start at goaltender for the Chestnut Hill College Men's soccer team in their season finale Wednesday afternoon at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, New Jersey. Cabrera made the most of his first career game in net, recording a shutout as the Griffins battled to a 0-0 tie with the Lions.
The tie left the Griffins just short of a berth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament with a 3-5-3 conference record and 12 points and in ninth place in the CACC standings, two points behind eighth place Goldey-Beacom.
The Griffins finish their season with a 4-7-4 overall record, equaling the program record set back in 2015 for fewest losses in a season in the team's Division II era (2008- present). The Griffins also had a four-loss season in 2006, playing as a Division III program. The tie was also Chestnut Hill's third consecutive tie, another first for the program.
Chestnut Hill last played a match to a 0-0 draw back in 2019 when the team had three such contests, including back to back 0-0 matches on the road against Post and Bloomfield in October of that year. The tie was also only the eighth 0-0 draw in the history of the program which started in 2004. (342 games)
Back to game action, Cabrera made three saves on the afternoon as the Lions only put three of their 16 shots on target. The Griffins had four of their nine total shots on target with
Abdoulaye Kamagate recording two of them.
David Cortez and
Juan Ortiz had the other two shots on goal.
The Chestnut Hill College Men's soccer team's season came to a close with the tie against the Lions, their fourth against Georgian Court in ten career meetings, going back to 2013.
