The Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis team closed out their regular season and clinched home court advantage throughout the playoffs as they defeated Dominican University 5-2 Friday afternoon at Manny Welder Park in Monsey, New York.
The Griffins finish the regular season at 13-8 overall and 5-4 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference matches and a second place finish behind defending champion Thomas Jefferson University (9-0 CACC). The Chargers finish their season at 1-11 overall and 0-9 in league play.
With home court secured, Chestnut Hill will host Post University on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at the CHC Tennis courts. First serve will be at 2:00 p.m.
The Griffins jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match by winning two of the three doubles contests to secure the doubles points.Â
Tom Pitchley and
Noah Cutting defeated Qalib Ladhani and John Bruno  6-2 at #1 doubles and
Marcello Bozzone and
Pedro Vicente were 6-3 victors over Skyler ross and Ander Sadaba at #3 doubles.
The Chargers tied the match at 1-1 as Marcos Lee defeated
Tiago Lima at #1 singles 6-2, 6-2. Pitchley put the Griffins ahead again with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Guilherme Salim at #2 singles. Chestnut Hill won the next three matches to take a 5-1 lead with
Joao Sousa defeating Ross at #3 singles, 6-3, 6-4 and Vicente defeating Ladhani 6-4, 6-4 at#4 singles.Â
Siddharth Malik won at #5 singles, 6-3, 6-4 over Bruno. The Chargers scored their remaining point with a win at #6 singles.
The Griffins' quest for the conference championship begins with their semi final match vs. Post next Tuesday, with the winner facing defensing champion Jefferson on Friday at the CHC Tennis Courts.
