The Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis team came up short in their quest for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship on Friday as Jefferson University successfully defended their title with a 4-0 win over the Griffins at the CHC Tennis Courts.
Chestnut Hill in all likelihood concludes their season at 14-9 as they await a possible NCAA regional bid. Jefferson earns the CACC automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and improves to 20-4.
Jefferson started the match by earning the doubles point with wins at #1 and #2 doubles. Tom Pitchley and Noah Cutting dropped their #1 doubles match to German Lopez and Hubert Theriault, 6-3 while Marcello Bozzone and Antonio Franquis fell to Elliot Jarosz and Hannibal Borg 6-3 at #2 doubles.
The Griffins moved on to singles play needing to win four of the six matches. Jefferson, however, had other ideas as they won three singles contests to take the match. Bozzone lost 6-1, 6-1 to Jules Thibault at #6 singles while Borg defeated Joao Sousa 6-4, 6-1 at #5 singles. The Rams then clinched the match and the championship as Tiago Lima fell to Enrique Soto 6-3, 6-3 at #4 singles.
Cutting and Sousa were named to the All-Tournament team at the awards presentation following the match.
