Abby Galazka scored twice as the Chestnut Hill College Women's soccer team won their third straight contest, defeating Georgian Court University 2-0 and securing a spot in the upcoming Central Atlantic collegiate conference Tournament Friday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.
The Griffins improve to 5-6 in league play and secured the #7 seed in the tournament with the win. Georgian Court drops to 8-3 in league play and 11-5-2 overall. Chestnut Hill is 5-8-1 overall with the win and will travel to face #2 seed Caldwell University on Monday, November 11 at 1 p.m. in Caldwell, New Jersey.
Galazka's first goal came at the 23:18 mark as she headed a free kick from Antonia Linus into the net past GCU goalkeeper Delaine Wilkinson for a 1-0 Griffin's lead. Chestnut Hill held the 1-0 lead heading into halftime as neither team placed a shot on goal for the rest of the period.
Both teams picked up the offense in the second half with the Lions placing six shots on net in the period and the Griffins five.   Late in the game as the Lions were pressing on offense, the Griffins were able to clear the ball out and Galazka got slightly ahead of the field, fired a shot that was saved by Wilkinson and promptly put the rebound into the net for her second goal of the game and career-high fifth of the season for a 2-0 lead. Chestnut Hill held off one last push from the Lions to secure the win.
Griffin goalkeeper Ellie Stratz recorded her second shutout in three days recording seven saves to earn the win.  Galazka had six shots on goal while Virginia Perry added two.Â
For the game, both teams produced eight shots on goal.Â
The CACC Tournament Championship begins on Monday, November 11 with the quarterfinal round with Chestnut Hill traveling to Caldwell University for their game against the second-seed Cougars. Kick of is at 1:00 p.m.
