Joao Sousa and Tiago Lima each won both their matches to lead the Chestnut Hill College Men's Tennis team to a 6-1 win over Dominican University in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener for both team Friday afternoon at the CHC Tennis courts.
The Griffins improve to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in CACC games. Dominican falls to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Sousa and Lima teamed up at #1 doubles as the duo came back from a 1-4 deficit to earn a 7-5 win and complete the doubles sweep. Pedro Vicente and Siddharth Malik also rallied to win their doubles match, coming back from a 3-5 deficit and win four straight games to take the #2 doubles match 7-5 and earn the doubles point.
Chestnut Hill added a point before singles play began with a forfeit by the Chargers at the #6 singles spot. The Chargers got the point back with a win at #3 singles. Antonio Franquis earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at #2 singles while Noah Cutting clinched the match win for CHC with a 6-3, 6-4 win at #1 singles.Â
Lima handily won at #5 singles, 6-1, 6-1 while Sousa's match at #5 singles went to a tiebreaker in the first set which Sousa won. He went on to win the match 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
 The Griffins return to action on Wednesday, March 26, 2024, when they host local rival Jefferson University at the CHC Tennis courts. First serve is at 2:00 p.m.
