The Chestnut Hill College softball team earned their first win of the season in walkoff style with
Mianna Lopez Del Haro delivering a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the griffins a 2-1 win over the University of Pikeville Sunday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, south Carolinas.
The Griffins improve to 1-3 overall, having lost their first game of the day to Malone College 3-0.
Lopez Del Haro drove in both runs in the Pikeville win with a double in the fifth inning and her walkoff single in the seventh. The sophomore catcher/shortstop finished the game with three hits.
Camille Dunham (double) and
Lucianna Boggi (single) recorded the remaining hits for the Griffins.Â
Michelle Baker earned her first collegiate win for the Griffins, allowing just one unearned run on eight hits.
The Griffins got on the board first in the bottom half of the fifth when Dunham drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Maya Kemper. Lopez del Haro then delivered a line drive double to left field to score Dunham for a 1-0 Griffins lead.
Pikeville evened the score at 1-1 in the top of the sixth on two singles, a Griffins' infield error and an infield groundout.
In Chestnut Hill's final at-bat, Dunham delivered a two-out double to right field and Kemper followed with a walk. Lopez Del Haro hit a hard ground ball up the middle as Dunham raced home with the winning run.
Malone scored a run in the second inning in the Griffins' opening game of the day and made it stand, scoring twice more for a 3-0 win.Â
Gabriella Quinones allowed just four hits while striking out three in the loss. Two of Malone's three runs were unearned.Â
Skyler Cunningham had two hits to lead the Griffins while Boggi and Lopez Del Haro had one apiece.
The women's softball team returns to action on Monday, March 4, 2024, with games against Rochester University (Michigan) and Malone in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
