Maya Kemper's eighth inning single drove home the go-ahead run as the Chestnut Hill College Women's Softball team earned a split of their doubleheader with Georgian Court University with a 3-2 extra-inning win in game two at SEI Field in Lakewood, New Jersey.
The Lions won the opener 8-1. The Griffins improve to 3-25 overall and 2-16 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play. Georgian Court is now 19-19 overall and 11-7 in league contests.
With the game tied at 2-2 heading into the eight inning,
Anastasia Watson drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Giselle McLaughlin.Â
Jasmine Ramirez walked, bringing up Kemper who delivered a single to right field to score Watson from second and give CHC a 3-2 lead.
Griffins' pitcher
Michelle Baker gave up a single in the eighth inning and held the Lions scoreless as the Griffins hung on for the win. Baker allowed just one earned run (two total) on six hits to earn her second win of the season.
Kemper also drove in the Griffins' first run on an infield groundout in the second while Ramirez tied the game with a one-out RBI single in the fourth, scoring
Amaris Guzman who singled two batters earlier. Guzman and Ramirez both finished the game with two hits apiece.
In the opener, the Lions scored four times in the third inning and built a 6-0 lead before the Griffins got on the board in the sixth inning via a
Mianna Lopez del Haro home run to left centerfield. Georgian Court rounded out their scoring with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as they secured an 8-1 victory.
Lopez Del Haro had two of the Griffins six hits in the contest.Â
Gabriella Quinones took the loss allowing all eight runs (five earned) with scattering 11 hits.
The Griffins' softball team returns to action on Monday, April 22, 2024 when they host Dominican University at the CHC softball field. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
