Griffins Drop Two at Millersville

Camille Dunham hit a home run in the opening game of the Chestnut Hill college Softball team's doubleheader against Millersville University Wednesday afternoon at Millersville's Seaber Stadium but the Griffins lost the opening game 9-6.   The Marauders completed the sweep with an 8-0 win in game two.

The Griffins fall to 0-4.  Millersville improves to 2-2.

Dunham was one of two players on the Griffins who had an extra base hit along with Izabella Rodriguez who smoked a two-run double in the opener.  Michelle Baker took the loss, pitching the final three innings and allowing three runs while striking out two.

Chestnut Hill took an early 1-0 lead in the first courtesy of Dunham's home run before the Marauders tied the game up with a solo run in the first and took a 5-1 lead with four more runs in the second.

The Griffins countered with five runs in their half of the third.  Devin Warner and Alauna Kelley opened the inning with singles and later scored as Christina Contreras and Dunham reached on back-to-back errors.  Rodriguez then delivered a double to left field and advanced to third on the play as Dunham and Contreras scored. She then scored on an infield out, giving the Griffins a 6-5 lead.

Millersville tied the game in the bottom of the third and added the go-ahead run in the fourth and two insurance runs in the fifth to round out the scoring.

In game two, Rodriguez and Kayla Rolon had the only two hits in the game as the Marauders scored at least one run in each of the first five innings en route to an 8-0 win.  Gabriella quinones took the loss, pitching the first three innings and allowing four rums on eight hits while striking out three.

The women's softball team returns to action on Sunday March 2 with games at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
