Watson Sets School Record, Extending Hitting Streak to 14 Games

Anastasia Watson recorded hits in both games of the Chestnut Hill College Softball team's doubleheader loss to area and conference rival Jefferson University Wednesday afternoon, extending her consecutive games hitting streak to a school record 14 games in the process.

The Griffins lost the first game 8-0 and then dropped the second game 6-1 with Watson scoring the lone run.

Chestnut Hill falls to  9-11-1 overall and 2-2 in central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games.   The Rams improve to 4-14 overall and 3-1 in league play.

Watson's 14-game hitting streak breaks the old record of 13 set by Ariel Magee set during the 2017 season.  She is also one of just eight players in the program's Division II history to record a hitting streak of ten of more games.  Watson has batted .478 over the course of the streak (22-46) which began on March 2 with six doubles, two home runs and 12 RBI in the 14 games.

The senior first baseman's lone hit in game two also led to the Griffins only run.  She led off the top half of the sixth inning with a single and came around to score from second on Alauna Kelley's single up the middle.  Kelley finished the game with two hits. Rebecca Cessna took the loss allowing all six runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out two over four+ innings.

Jefferson scored solo runs in the first two innings and added the three unearned runs in the fourth and one more to lead off the fifth inning.

Watson had two of the Griffins six hits in the opener with Amaris Guzman recording a pair of hits as well.  Chestnut Hill left runners on base in three of the first four innings  including stranding the bases loaded in the top half of the fourth

Gabriella Quinones took the loss  to fall to 3-3 on the season.

The women's softball team returns to action on Saturday, March 22, 2025, when they travel to face Caldwell University for a conference doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
