The Chestnut Hill College Softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader at Goldey-Beacom College Wednesday afternoon, 11-0 and 6-1.
The Griffins fall to 9-21-1 overall and 2-10 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. The Lightning improve to 23-10 overall and 7-5 in league play.
The Griffins were held to just two hits in the opener, singles from Maya Kemper and Christina Contreras. Rebecca Cessna took the loss, allowing nine runs (six earned) on seven hits while striking out three over three innings pitched.
In game two, Erika Kwasek drove in the Griffins lone run and had a single. Kayla Rolon and Skyler Cunningham also had singles. Michelle Baker took the loss, allowing all six runs (five earned) on nine hits.
The Lightning scored solo runs in the second and third innings in game two and added four more in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead before the Griffins got on the board in the sixth. Rolon and Cunningham had back-to-back singles to start the inning with Rolon moving to third on a fielder's choice. Kwasek then grounded out as Rolon scored on the play to make the score 6-1.
Chestnut Hill got the first runner on in their final at-bat but was unable to score as the Lightning secured the sweep with the win.
In game one, the Lightning scored five runs in the second inning and added six more in the fourth to complete the scoring as they invoked the eight-run rule after five innings with an 11-0 final score.
The women's softball team returns to action on Thursday, April 3, 2025, when they host Post University at the CHC softball Field. The first pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
