The Chestnut Hill College Softball team closed out their season Tuesday afternoon with a pair of one run victories , defeating Gwynedd Mercy University 12-11 in eight innings and 11-10 in the "Battle of the Griffins" at GMU's Genuardis Legends Field.in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania.
Chestnut Hill finishes their season at 16-28-1. Gwynedd Mercy finishes at 12-25.
Michelle Baker earned the win in game one, pitching the final 2.1 innings and allowing just one unearned run on three hits. Chestnut Hill banged out 15 hits in the opener with Christina Contreras and Kayla Rolon recording three apiece. Izabella Rodriguez added two hits and drove in three runs. Anastasia Watson had a pair of triples and two RBI.
Chestnut Hill staked GMU to a 6-0 lead in the first inning before mounting a comeback with a seven run fifth inning.  Earlier, in the second inning however, Watson tripled and scored CHC's first run off Rodriguez's sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, Devin Warner delivered the first of seven CHC hits in the inning to score Rodriguez who had reached on an error with the first of seven runs in the frame. Contreras followed with an RBI single and two batters later Rolon singled through the right side to score Warner to make the 6-4. An infield groundout off the bat of Skyler Cunningham scored Contreras and a double from Camille Dunham brought home Rolon with the tying run. Watson hit her second triple of the game to score Dunham and scored on a Rodriguez single to give Chestnut Hill an 8-6 lead.
A solo home run in the bottom of the fifth cut CHC's lead to 8-7 before Rolon delivered an RBI single and later scored on a fielding error to make the score 10-7. Gwynedd Mercy tied the game in the bottom of the sixth with three runs.
The score remained 10-10 until the extra frame when Chestnut Hill plated two runs to take a 12-10 lead. Baker got the first two outs in the bottom of the eighth before a wild pitch and a singled scored the runner placed on second base to start the inning via the international tiebreak rule before getting out of the inning and earning the win.
Gabriella Quinones pitched four innings in the nightcap to earn her fourth win of the season as Chestnut Hill held off a late run by the hosts to win 11-10. Isabelle Tetreault closed out the game, pitching the final 1.1 innings to earn her first collegiate save.
Rolon and Watson had three hits apiece with the two batters each hitting a triple and Watson adding a home run. Rolon had two RBI while Watson added three. Lucianna Boggi also drove in two runs and had two hits.
Two errors by GMU in the opening inning staked Chestnut Hill to a 3-0 lead. Gwynedd came back with two runs in the bottom of the first to pull within one 3-2 before CH exploded with a five-run third inning.
Amaris Guzman started things off with a one-out single ands scored on Rolon's triple. Watson made it back-to-back triples to score Rolon and then scored on Jenn Pokropinski's single. Quinones' single, followed by a fielding error on the play brought home another run before Boggi laced a two-out two-RBI double to cap of the inning as CHC took and 8-2 lead.
The Rolon-Watson combination struck again in the fourth with Rolon delivering an RBI single to score Mikayla Yuricheck who had reached on an error. Watson followed with her third home run of the season to score Rolon and add the final two runs to the team's total. Watson's two RBI on the play gave her 26 for the season, the most by a Chestnut Hill player in the program's division II era.
Gwynedd chipped away with a solo run in the fourth and four more in the sixth to close within two 11-9. Tetreault entered the game with the tying runs on base to get the final out of the inning and allowed a run via a sacrifice fly in the seventh to make the final score 11-10.
The softball team has now concluded their 2025 season.
