Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Westervelt's Second Half Goal Gives Griffins a Win over Wildcats

Bryce Westervelt's second half goal provided all the offense the Chestnut Hill college Women's Soccer team needed as they defeated Wilmington University 1-0 Tuesday night at Victory Field in Lafayette Hill.

The Griffins improve to 4-6-4 overall and 4-3-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate conference games.  The three points the team earned moved them into a tie for fifth place in the league standings with 14 points.  The Wildcats fall to 3-4-3 in league play (12 points) and 3-8-4 overall

Westervelt's goal in the 80th minute broke a scoreless tie that had seen the Griffins dominate on offense for much of the previous 80 minutes.    A cross that was deflected by Abby Collins to Westervelt allowed the sophomore midfielder tuck a shot just under the crossbar and out of reach of Wildcat goalkeeper Bella Mazzone.

Meanwhile, the Griffin defense limited the Wildcats to just six shots, none of which were on target.  Griffin goalkeeper Haley Esposito earned her fourth complete game shutout of the season and lowered her goals against average on the season to 0.87

Chestnut Hill outshot Wilmington 16-6 on the night Kylie Weist led the griffins with four shots (three on net) while Alyssa Browning added three (one on net). Seven different Griffins recorded at least one shot on goal.  The Griffins also recorded more corner kicks (3-1) while Wilmington committed more fouls (19-7).

The women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, October 24, 2026 when they host Caldwell University at Victory Field.  Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
