Hornets Sweep Griffins

The Chestnut Hill College Softball team returned to action on Wednesday, taking on Division I Delaware state University in a makeup doubleheader that was originally scheduled for March 31.  The Hornets swept the two games from the Griffins, winning the opener 4-3 and then taking the nightcap 8-0.

The Griffins fall to 4-16 with the two losses.  The Hornets improve to 15-16.

Kayla Childress had two of the Griffins' four hits in the opener.  Belle Tetreault took the loss, giving up all four runs, including two in DSU's final at-bat in the seventh.  The sophomore pitcher struck out six and walked one in 6.2 innings of work.

Chestnut Hill held onto a 3-2 lead heading into the final inning when the Hornets put together four hits to score two runs to win the game.

The Griffins scored all three of their runs in the third inning.  Haley Kober walked and stole second to start things off.  Childress singled as Kober moved to third, later scoring on a passed ball, tying the game at 1-1.  An infield throwing error then gave Brynn Pollard an RBI as Childress scored.  Mikayla Pengelly then delivered a one-out bunt single to score Jenn Pokropinski who had earlier reached on a walk, giving the Griffins a 3-1 lead.

DSU cut the score to 3-2 in the bottom half of the sixth via a sacrifice fly before scoring twice in the seventh to earn the come-from-behind win.

In game two, the Hornets scored in all five innings as the produced an 8-0 win.  Rebecca Cessna took the loss, tossing 1.2 innings and allowing three runs on one hit but walked five batters.  Jazmine Ramirez recorded the Griffins' only hit of the game, a two-out single in the second inning. Childress was the only other Griffins to reach base, drawing a walk in the third inning and later stealing second.

The softball team returns to action on Saturday, April 11, 2026 when they travel to host Felician University in Rutherford, New Jersey.  First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
