Biography

FRESHMAN (2015) – Martines provided an immediate impact, stemming from an impressive cross country campaign. He was a three-time mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Reports (3/31, 4/13, 4/28), including an Athlete of the Week honor on March 31 and a Rookie of the Week honor on April 28.  Martines collected 10 top-ten finishes including three 1st place finishes; the first came in the 4x8 at the Gwynedd-Mercy College Mid-Week Twilight Invitational (8:42.70) on April 15 and the latter two came in the 3,000 meter (8:46.51) at the University of Delaware Classic on April 25 and the 1,500 meter (4:05.03) at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship on May 3. At the CACC Championship, he also finished 2nd (16:15.04) in the 5,000 meter; additional top-ten finishes came in the 4x8 relay (5th, 9:19.69) and mile run (7th, 4:48.36) at the Frank Colden Invitational on February 7, the 4x8 relay (4th, 8:52.91) and distance medley relay (2nd, 11:03.91) at the Molloy College Invitational on February 13, the 1,500 meter (3rd, 4:06.98) at the Coach P Open, and the 4x4 (2nd, 3:31.94) at the Gwynedd-Mercy College Mid-Week Twilight Invitational on April 15.

SOPHOMORE (2016) – Martines earned the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for his performance during the 2016 season. He finished third in the mile (4:27.83; season best) at the Frank Colden Invitational on February 6. Martines placed ninth in the 3,000 meter (8:39.63; season best) at the Philadelphia College Classic on March 19. He finished second in the 800 meter (1:59.55), while notching a first-place finish as a member of the distance medley relay (10:41.97), and a second-place finish as a member of the 4x400 meter relay (3:31.82) at the St. Joseph’s Spring Opener on March 26. Martines finished third in the 5,000 meter (15:05.21; season best) and competed in the 1,500 meter at the Danny Curran Invitational April 1-2. He captured a pair of first place finishes at the Mid-Week Twilight Invitational on April 13, finishing first in the 800 meter (1:56.18; season best) and the 1,500 meter (4:02.85). Martines finished sixth in the 1,500 meter (3:58.59; season best) and competed in the 800 meter at the Widener Invitational April 22-23. He placed first in the 1,500 meter (4:06.09), first in the 5,000 meter (16:18.94), and second in the 800 meter (1:58.60) at the CACC Outdoor Conference Championship on May 1. Martines earned CACC Athlete of the Week accolades twice (4/18, 3/31) and earned mention on the CACC Honor Roll once (4/4).
