Biography

FRESHMAN (2008-2009): Avena won nine singles matches and played a role in ten doubles wins as a freshman. He finished the year 11-11 in singles compettiton, playing primarily at number two singles (9-9). In doubles, he teamed with Carson Richter for a 10-7 record. Avena was a honorable mention for the CACC Rookie of the Week award on April 7.

SOPHOMORE (2009-2010): As a sophomore, Avena solidified the bottom of the lineup with the Griffins offering a much improved roster. He was 14-8 overall, playing a majority of his individual matches at number six singles (11-4). In doubles play, Avena teamed with David Negron for a 15-9 record. He was the CACC Player of the Week on March 23 and later an honorable mention for the award on April 12.
