Description: Whitemarsh Valley Country Club was founded in 1908 and was the first course ever designed by famed golf course architect George Thomas, Jr. who went on to design Riviera Country Club as well as the North Course at Los Angeles Country Club. The club hosted the 1934 U.S. Women’s Amateur as well as the IVB Philadelphia Classic on PGA Tour for 18 consecutive years, from 1963 through 1980 with a notable list of winners including, Arnold Palmer in 1963 which was his only professional win in his career in Pennsylvania, Jack Nicklaus three times, Tom Weiskopf, as well as the first tour win of the respective careers of Tom Kite and Tom Jenkins. The club is also very active in hosting various Golf Association of Philadelphia events and will host the 2010 Pennsylvania Women’s State Amateur.
