Biography

FRESHMAN (2014) – Martines provided a Most Valuable Player (MVP) season in his freshman campaign, serving as the Griffins’ top finisher in three of six meets. After missing the Queensborough Community College Invitational on September 14, Martines led the Griffins with a 5th (29:17) place finish in his collegiate debut at the Philadelphia Metro Meet on September 27. He followed that effort with a record-setting 46th (27:31) place finish at the Paul Short Invitational on October 4, a 53rd (27:32.4) place finish at the Gettysburg College Invitational on October 18, a 9th (28:20) place finish at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Meet on November 2, and a 116th (35:32.2) place finish at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II East Regional on November 22. His finish at the CACC Championship Meet earned him All-CACC honors.

SOPHOMORE (2015) – Martines started the 2015 season on the right foot, pacing the field at the Philadelphia Metro Meet, on September 12, with his eight-kilometer (8K) run of 28:07.7. He earned the CACC Runner of the Week title for his effort and followed it with four straight top-10 finishes. At the Caldwell University's Cougar Chase Invitational, on October 17, Martines crossed the finish line before all others (1st, 16:19.6), setting a school record, earning his second individual championship of the season, and his second CACC Runner of the Week award in the process. A little over a week later, on October 25, Martines continued his brilliant season with his pace-setting effort at the CACC Championship Meet. Familiar with the course at Philadelphia's Belmont Plateau, he crossed the finish line 25 seconds before his closest competitor to establish another program record (1st, 27:08.60) and earn himself his second All-CACC laurel and his first CACC Runner of the Year title. For Martines, the storied season continued at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II East Regional Championship Meet, on November 8, where his program record ten-kilometer (10K) run of 31:45.4 placed him eighth, just one spot shy of advancing to the national championship. He also ran 3rd (27:49.6) at the Bryn Athyn Invitational (10/3, 8K).
