Chestnut Hill College Director of Athletics Jesse Balcer is pleased to introduce Ashley Johnson as the college’s new Head Cross Country and Track and Field Coach Johnson becomes the seventh head coach in the history of the program that started back in 2005 with just cross country and added track in field in 2014.
Johnson comes to Chestnut Hill College after serving as an assistant coach at Rowan university during the 2024 season.
While at Rowan last season, the Women's track and field team placed second in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, and third in the All-Atlantic Region Championships.
In addition to coaching at Rowan, Johnson has been a teacher in the Washington township School district, most recently serving as a Health and physical Education teacher at the high school while also serving as the high school’s field hockey coach.
Starting her coaching career on the high school level, Johnson served as the head coach at Pennsville Memorial high School and was also an assistant at Clearview high School. She led the Pennsville girl’s cross country team to the Salem County title in 2018, the first cross country title in school history, while also qualifying for the state championship meet.
Johnson graduated from Rowan University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health and physical Education and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in higher education administration from Wilmington University. As a student athlete at Rowan, Johnson was part of two NJAC championship teams earning several all-conference honors throughout her career and winning the 5,000 meter individual title at the 2010 NJAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Still running today, Johnson recently competed in the 2024 Boston Marathon finishing in the top 6% of women’s finishers and top 20% overall. She is currently training for the Philadelphia Marathon. Johnson resides in South Jersey with her husband and two children.
