Jordan Malmstrom became a member of the Chestnut Hill College men’s and women’s track and field coaching staff in 2014. A former collegiate athlete and assistant at the University of Richmond, Malmstrom brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Griffins.
Malmstrom’s collegiate career began at South Dakota State University, where he set the school record in the 60 meters in 2003. He was a Division II national qualifier in the 100 meters in 2003 and 2004 and ranks in the program’s all-time top 10 in that event, as well as the 4x100-meter relay. After two years at South Dakota State, Malmstrom completed his career at Drake University, serving as captain of the men’s track and field team from 2006-2007. There, in 2007, he represented the Bulldogs in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Midwest Regional as a qualifier for the 100-meter after claiming the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championship in the 100-meter and finishing as runner-up in the 60-meter. He was also named a MVC Men’s Track and Field Scholar-Athlete for each of the two years prior.
After his playing career, Malmstrom joined the coaching staff at the University of Richmond as an assistant, serving from 2007 to 2010. With the Spiders, Malmstrom developed several all-conference performers and helped lead the 2008-2009 men’s team to a fourth-place finish at the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships. Under his direction, the Spiders set school records in the outdoor 4x100-meter relay and indoor triple jump and achieved a number of runner-up finishes at the outdoor conference championships.
Malmstrom also worked as a strength and conditioning specialist with CJW Sports Medicine in Richmond, Virginia, where he strategically developed and implemented athletic performance, strength and conditioning, and post-rehabilitation regimens (2008-2013). He managed and tracked client progress, modified and enhanced goals as needed, and served as CJW’s principal speed and agility specialist.
Malmstrom, who holds certifications from USA Track and Field in Level 1 Sprints, Jumps and Hurdles, graduated from Drake in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in history and earned a master’s degree in leadership from Bellevue University in 2010.
