Griffins Repeat as CACC Men’s Lacrosse Player and Defensive Player of the Week
New Haven, Conn. - (2/25/2020) – Chestnut Hill College provided the league’s top player and top defensive player for the second week in a row as junior attack Carson Rees (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) recorded a dozen (12) points (8 goals, 4 assists), and seven ground balls en route to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week title. Meanwhile, junior midfielder Billy DiMaio (Holmdel, N.J.) garnered the CACC Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week award with two points (1 goal, 1 assist) and 14 ground balls.
Chestnut Hill College (2-1) felt some early pressure in Tuesday’s (February 18) contest at St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC) (0-1) as the Spartans posted 4-3 first-quarter advantage. But, Scarlet and Gold spirit rose to the occasion with second (5-1) and third (9-1) quarter spreads that reinvigorated the Griffins for a 21-6 triumph. Rees emerged as the Scarlet and Gold’s top scorer with seven points (4 goals, 3 assists), while his line mate, junior J.R. Howell (East Meadow, N.Y.) netted a team-high five goals in his six-point (5 goals, 1 assist) performance. In addition to his four goals and three assists, Rees also recorded seven ground balls. Meanwhile, DiMaio recorded a goal, an assist, and a dozen (12) ground balls.
Chestnut Hill College fell for the first time in 2020 on Saturday, February 22, dropping its non-conference clash against #4 Mercyhurst University (3-0) by a 17-10 final. The Griffins hung around in the first half, but a pair of second-half scoring runs for the Lakers sealed their road triumph on Victory Field #1. Rees added five points (3 goals, 2 assists) to his season point total (18), while DiMaio recovered a pair (2) of ground balls.
