O’Byrne Earns CACC Softball Weekly Honor Roll Rank
New Haven, Conn. - (3/9/2020) – Chestnut Hill College opened their 2020 schedule with a 1-5 showing at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. Junior designated player Gabrielle O’Byrne (Moorestown, N.J.) was the Griffins’ top performer during the week of competition, garnering a sport on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Weekly Honor Roll with a .467 (7-for-15) batting average that delivered two runs and three runs-batted-in (RBI).
O’Byrne record two hits in both a 4-3 loss to Franklin Pierce University on March 3 and 4-1 loss to Barton College on March 6. In between, on March 3, she went 1-for-3 in the Griffins’ 3-2 victory over Shawnee State University. O’Byrne singled to right field with two out in the sixth inning and later came around to score the game-tying run on two-run single to centerfield from freshman catcher Haley Furlong (Point Pleasant, N.J.).
In the March 3 loss to the Ravens, O’Byrne tripled in a pair of runs and scored on a double during the Griffins’ first at-bat. Unfortunately, the Scarlet and Gold squandered their 3-0 head start as Franklin Pierce University scored a run the second inning, 3-1, and tied the contest in the fourth inning, 3-3, before plating the winning run with a seventh-inning fielder’s choice; 4-3. O’Byrne also singled to lead off Chestnut Hill College’s half of the fifth frame.
On March 6, O’Byrne singled home senior shortstop Cailey Stevenson (Burbank, Calif.) with two out in the first inning of the Griffins’ 4-1 loss to Barton College. She also singled in the sixth inning, but the Bulldogs came away victorious, overcoming Chestnut Hill College’s early 1-0 lead with scores in the second inning, 1-1, fourth inning, 3-1, and sixth inning, 4-1.
