DiGiovanni Hat Trick Draws Honorable Mention In CACC Weekly Report
New Haven, Conn. – (9/17/2012) – Chestnut Hill College ended a 1-2 week on a high-note, defeating Concordia College (NY) 5-2 in a home CACC affair. With all the scoring coming in the second half, junior midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, N.J.) powered the Griffins to victory by recording her first collegiate hat trick in a nine-minute span. The effort earned DiGiovanni an honorable mention for Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Soccer Player of the Week title.
After opening the week with losses at Bloomsburg University, 3-0, on Monday, September 10, and to Queens College, 2-0 on Wednesday, September 12, Chestnut Hill College (2-4, 2-0) earned their second CACC victory on Saturday, September 15, with a 5-2 victory over Concordia College (NY). Junior defender Brittany Boles (Broomall, Pa.) found sophomore midfielder Katherine Williams (Pennsauken, N.J.) for the first Griffin goal against the Clippers, which came after a 52-minute stalemate, 1-0 (52:04). It was soon followed by a foot-to-head connection between junior forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, N.J.) and DiGiovanni, 2-0 (58:49). DiGiovanni’s next goal came just 1:23 later on an unassisted effort, 3-0. The Clippers interrupted the run on a converted penalty kick, 3-1 (64:43), but the goals kept coming. DiGiovanni scored her last goal at 67:49, 4-1, and the Clippers then responded on an unassisted goal at 69:48, 4-2, only for to have freshman midfielder Danielle Spinuzza (Williamstown, N.J.) deliver the nail-in-the-coffin at 70:12, 5-2.
DiGiovanni is currently leading the Griffins in scoring with 11 points on five goals and an assist. She ranks second in the CACC in both goals (5) and points (11).
The women's soccer team continues their CACC schedule with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, September 19.
