Shcherbakova Scores CACC Player of the Week Award
                                                                                                                   
New Haven, Conn. – (10/17/2012) – Last week, Chestnut Hill College played host to back-to-back dual matches as the Griffins welcomed West Chester University to campus on Friday, October 12, before challenging the Panthers of Adelphi University on Saturday, October 13. The Griffins were victorious in both matches, defeating the Golden Rams 9-0 and the Panthers 7-2. For her part in the wins, senior Anastasiya Shcherbakova (Minsk, Belarus) was honored as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
 
Against West Chester University. Shcherbakova and fellow senior Maria Parapouras (Victoria, Australia) led-off the Chestnut Hill College (10-3, 6-2) doubles lineup at number one doubles with an 8-3 win over the top Golden Ram duo. At number two doubles, junior Kelly Dennis (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Morgan Oechsle (Coopersburg, Pa.) were victorious 8-1 while the freshmen combo of Axe Owens (Trenton, N.J.) and Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) teamed for an 8-5 win at number three doubles. The Griffins swept singles play as well with Shcherbakova taking the top individual flight 6-1, 6-1, for a 9-0 shutout.
 
Competing on back-to-back days, the Griffins welcomed Adelphi University to campus for their second dual match in as many days. The Griffins and Panthers split the afternoon’s wins, as the Griffin women collected their tenth win of the season on a 7-2 final. The top four Griffin women were perfect, as Shcherbakova led off the lineup with wins at number one singles and number one doubles. After the Griffins and Panthers split number two and number three doubles on 8-2 finals, Shcherbakova and Parapouras claimed an 8-4 victory at number one doubles to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead. The Griffin nearly swept the singles matches, only yielding to the Panthers at number six singles 9-8 (9-7). Shcherbakova won at number one singles 7-5, 6-2.
 
The women's tennis team competes next in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament on Saturday, October 20. The semifinal match is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. opening serve.
