Taylor and Humes Honored on CACC Weekly Men’s Tennis Report
New Haven, Conn. – (3/11/2013) – It was a great day for Chestnut Hill College tennis on Saturday, March 9, as the Griffins took two matches from Southern New Hampshire University’s (SNHU) regionally ranked squads. Helping a #10 regionally ranked Griffin men’s team to a 6-3 victory over the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Region’s #7 team, SNHU, freshman
Kevin Taylor (Burlington, N.J.) and sophomore
Michael Humes (Medford, N.J.) were recognized on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Report. Taylor garnered the league’s Rookie of the Week title while Humes received an honorable mention for the CACC Player of the Week title.
Chestnut Hill College (7-3) grabbed a 2-1 win in doubles play, as Taylor and freshmen
Anthony Moore (Williamstown, N.J.) teamed for an 8-3 win at number two doubles while Humes and
Manuel Ceniceros (Mexico City, Mexico) took number three doubles 8-1. The Penmen took the top team flight 9-7. The Penmen made their push as individuals. The visitors took number two singles 6-1, 4-6, 10-4, and number three singles, 2-6, 6-2, 10-6, but Humes’ number one singles victory, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6, and Taylor’s 6-2, 6-1, win at number six singles played key roles in sending the Griffins to a 6-3 victory.
The women's tennis team plays next at La Salle University in a 3:30 p.m. match on Thursday, March 21, while the men's tennis team will open their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with their next match; a 3:30 p.m. contest at #16 Concordia College (NY) on Tuesday, March 19.
