Milestone Garners Melnychenko ECC Player of the Week Award, Maurer Mentioned on Week 5 Honor Roll

Michael Melnychenko (St. Catharines, Ontario) highlighted a 9-1 one Chestnut Hill College first quarter run with four goals and an assist; his last score made him the first in program history to eclipse 100 career goals. For his efforts he was selected as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Week. He was joined on the ECC Weekly Report by senior goalkeeper
Dakota Maurer (Lititz, Pa.), who recvied a mention on the ECC Week Five Honor Roll.
Chestnut Hill College (4-3, 1-0) put the work in early against Roberts Wesleyan College on Saturday, March 23. with Melnychenko’s milestone score ended a flurry of action that grew the Griffin lead to 9-1 by the end of the first quarter. By halftime, the Griffin advantage reached ten goals, 13-3, with senior attack
Craig Owen (Glenolden, Pa.) scoring twice (13:09 and 2:45), freshman attack
Michael Plaia (Hicksville, N.Y.) scoring his second goal (11:03), and freshman attack
Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia) joining the mix (6:25) while Melnychenko deferred to providing the helpers. In the end the ten-goal margin held as the Griffins earned the victory on an 18-8 final.
Melnychenko ended his historical performance with eight points on five goals and three assists. He also provided the Griffins with two ground balls and a caused turnover. He currently leads the Griffins in goals (15), assists (11), and points (26), while also providing 12 ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Maurer made nine saves in 47:40 minutes of play against the Redhawks to earn his fourth win of the season (4-3). He is currently carrying a 10.79 goals-against-average while making 82 saves on 188 shots faced for a .539 save percentage.
The men's lacrosse team continues their ECC schedule on Saturday, March 30, with a 12:00 p.m. contest at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT).
