Scoreless Streak Returns Raia to Weekly CACC Report

Dominic Raia III (Philadelphia, Pa.) continued to command the rubber. On Saturday, April 27, Raia extended his scoreless streak to 16 consecutive innings with eight strikeouts and a, program-record, sixth win in game two versus Felician College. His performance earned him a second straight week on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Baseball Report, this time garnering an Honor Roll mention.
While Raia mowed Felician College down, Chestnut Hill College (17-23, 10-10) built a 7-0 advantage with a four-run first inning, two runs in the fourth, and a run in the fifth. In the first inning, two Golden Falcon errors and a run-scoring grounder to shortstop from freshman designated hitter
Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) brought the Griffins a 4-0 advantage. A fourth-inning, lead-off walk to senior shortstop
Joseph Crane (Churchville, Pa.) turned into two more Griffin runs with a single from senior catcher
Timothy DiMonte (Downingtown, Pa.), 5-0, and a two-out single from juniors third baseman
Raymond Puskar (Green Lane, Pa.), 6-0. In the fifth inning, the Griffins extended their lead to 7-0 with a lead-off triple from junior center fielder
Desmond Lites (Philadelphia, Pa.) turned into another run on a Crane single to center field, 7-0. Raia went seven inning strong, allowing only six hits and two walks to the Golden Falcons.
The performance lowered Raia’s earned run average (ERA) to 2.87, leading the Griffins starters and ranking him 12
th among his CACC peers. He is also tied for second in wins (6), eighth in innings pitched (62.2), and tied for 1tth in strikeouts (43).
The baseball team will conclude their 2013 regular season schedule on Sunday, May 5, with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Army.
