Pitchley Named CACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week After Ranked Win
New Haven, Conn. - (4/13/2021) – Junior Tom Pitchley (London, England) provided the silver lining on a 6-1 league loss at Concordia College (NY) on Thursday, April 8, as his 7-6, 7-4 number-one singles victory over his #30 nationally-ranked counterpart earned him the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week award. The Clippers’ 6-1 win at number two double clinched the opening point, succeeding singles wins in the sixth (default), third (6-2, 6-1), and second (6-3, 6-3) flights.
After a Chestnut Hill College (3-3, 2-2) forfeit at number three doubles, Concordia College (4-0, 4-0) only needed the 6-1 win at number two doubles to secure a 1-0 lead. Their advantage was extended with another Scarlet and Gold default at number six singles, 2-0. And the Clippers’ clinching victories in the third and second flights came just moments before Pitchley’s triumph at number one singles, 4-1. The final two flights also went in the home team’s favor; five singles (6-2, 6-3) before four singles (6-2, 6-2).
Chestnut Hill College continues their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 14, when they host the University of the Sciences in a 2:30 p.m. match.
