Gorczynski Garners CACC Honor Roll Recognition with Play in Season Opener

New Haven, Conn. – (11/11/2013) – Junior guard Olivia Gorczynski (Parlin, N.J.) hit three from long range (3-of-9, .333) in a 6-of-14 (.429) shooting performance and also hit 4-of-5 (.800) from the free throw line to tie her best her career best scoring performance and lead all scorers in Chestnut Hill College’s season-opening loss to Bloomsburg University. Her performance was recognized on the conference level with an Honor Roll mention on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Report.

Bloomsburg University's late first half run escalated to a second-half avalanche as the visiting Huskies pulled away from Chestnut Hill College (0-1) for a 97-57 victory in Saturday's, November 9, season opener. Six Huskies finished in double figures while Gorczynski highlighted the Griffin effort with a game-high 19 points. The Griffins had trouble finding the basket after the opening tip-off and quickly fell behind the Huskies, 19-10 (12:22), before junior guard Shayla Felder (Cheltenham, Pa.) inspired a 15-9 stretch that left the home team down three points, 28-25, with 5:48 remaining in the period. Following a visitor timeout, senior Brianna Dudeck (Sugarloaf, Pa.) and sophomore guard Lauren Nealon (Ambler, Pa.) helped a refocus Husky effort for a 13-5 run that reestablished their advantage at 11, 41-30, by the halftime break. Following intermission, a 7-of-30 (.233) team shooting clip slowed the Gorczynski and the Griffins tremendously. The Huskies managed to expand their advantage to 33, 74-41, before the midway point of the closing period (11:57) and they would eventually grow the deficit to 40, 95-55, in the closing minutes.

The women's basketball team will take their next challenge on the road when they visit Adelphi University for a 5:00 p.m. contest on Friday, November 15.
