Porter Returns to CACC Weekly Report As Honor Roll Mention New Haven, Conn. – (4/8/2014) – Freshman
Mariano Porter (Cuemacava, Mexico) returned to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Men’s Tennis Weekly Report as an Honor Roll mention after contributing four points to Chestnut Hill College wins over the University of the Sciences and John Hopkins University.
Following a disappointing 9-0 CACC loss at Concordia College (NY), Chestnut Hill College (13-4, 4-1) got back on the right track with an 8-1 league-win over the University of the Sciences (USciences). Due to rain, Friday’s match was completed at Magarity Tennis Center of Flourtown, Pennsylvania, where the Griffins defeated the Devils in drier surroundings. Porter first teamed with fellow freshmen
Pedro Oranges (Sao Paulo, Brazil) for an 8-4 number one doubles win, before taking number one singles 6-0, 2-6, 10-5.
On Saturday, April 5, the Griffins broke from their CACC schedule to meet Johns Hopkins University for an afternoon match at Ursinus College. The Griffins took a major advantage by sweeping doubles play and after the Blue Jays top two seeds succumbed to injury only junior
Michael Humes (Medford, N.J.) needed to win an individual match for a 6-3 victory. Oranges and Porter were 8-1 victors at number one doubles, before Porter took the top individual flight by retirement.
The men's tennis team plays next at the Bloomfield University Duals where they will challenge Bluefield State College, Shepherd University, and Kutztown University on April 11 and 12.
