Sibson, Koehler, and Raia Reap CACC Accolades for Roles in Doubleheader Sweeps

New Haven, Conn. - (3/24/2015) – For the second year in a row, Chestnut Hill College opened their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with consecutive doubleheader sweeps. This year, senior shortstop Preston Koehler (Bath, Pa.), senior pitcher Dominic Raia III (Philadelphia, Pa.), and freshman Andrew Sibson (Galloway, N.J.) all played vital roles in the effort to earn recognition on this week’s CACC Baseball Report. Koehler and Raia were recognized with Honor Roll mentions while Sibson was honored with the CACC Rookie of the Week award.

Relocated to the Harford Community College Sports Complex in Bel Air, Maryland, Chestnut Hill College and Nyack College opened their respective CACC seasons with a pair of closely played contests on Monday, March 16. Junior left fielder Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) completed a comeback victory (W, 5-4) with a walk-off single to left center field in game one, while game two saw junior pitcher Zachary Crim (Horsham, Pa.) throw a five-hit, complete game shutout for his first win of the season (1-1). Koehler was 4-for-7 (.571) with the twin bill, connecting for his first home run with a solo shot in the second inning of game one and recording two, two-out singles in the nightcap. Raia worked 7.2 innings in the opener, allowing one earned run on seven hits and three walks while striking out 11.

Three days later, on Thursday, March 19, the Griffins opened Latshaw-McCarthy field with a bang, as superb pitching paved the way for a CACC doubleheader sweep of University of the Sciences (USciences). Senior Dane Gahr (Brick, N.J.) and Sibson each allowed only two hits over six efficient innings for the Griffins, who continued their perfect league start with respective 6-2 and 4-0 victories. Koehler went 4-for-5 (.800), scoring twice on two game-one singles and reaching base in all four plate appearances in game two with two singles and two beanballs. Sibson scattered two hits and three walks over his six frames. He struck out four.

The baseball team breaks from their CACC schedule tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, for the first of two scheduled non-conference dates at #19 Millersville University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
