Biography
FRESHMAN (2012) – In his freshman campaign, Raia made nine starts (11 appearances) while recording a 4.50 earned run average (ERA) and a 3-4 record. In 62.0 innings he threw two complete games efforts and allowed 31 earned runs on 65 hits and ten walks. Raia also totaled a staff-high 36 strike outs.
SOPHOMORE (2013) – Raia enjoyed a historical sophomore season, tossing the baseball program’s first no hitter in the second game at Caldwell College on April 20, 2013, and totaling a program-record seven wins in an All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Second Team performance. While establishing himself as Griffins future ace, Raia led the Griffin starters in wins (7), ERA (3.47), complete games (2), shutouts (1), and opponents' batting average (.261, 62-for-238), to rank 3rd in CACC for wins, 11th in innings pitched (62.2), and 13th in strikeouts (43). Following his no-hit performance at Caldwell College on Saturday, April 20, Raia was named both the D2BaseballNews.com National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Pitcher of the Week and the CACC Pitcher of the Week (4/22/13). He also earned a mention on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending April 28.
JUNIOR (2014) – Raia was the ace of the Griffins pitching staff and the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) with a 6-4 record, a 3.17 ERA, and the league's second highest strikeout total (68) which earned him his second consecutive All-CACC Second Team honor. He held opponents to a .242 (53-for-219) batting average and 19 earned runs on 53 hits and 18 walks. Raia was a two-time CACC Pitcher of the Week (4/7 and 3/17) and a one-time CACC Weekly Honor Roll mention (3/24) with his best outing coming in, a record, 12-strikeout one-hitter against Lincoln University (PA) on March 11.
SENIOR (2015) – Raia offered a sensational senior season that included an All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Pitcher of the Year and an All-CACC First Team selection. The Chestnut Hill College ace was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II East All-Region First Team, the NCBWA All-East Region First Team, the Daktronics/Division II CAA NCAA Baseball East All-Region First Team, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Daktronics All-American Third Team. He produced the most dominant Chestnut Hill College pitching campaign ever, leading the CACC with his program records for wins (9-1), strikeouts (99), and ERA (1.79). A two-time Pitcher of the Week (2/23 and 4/28), Raia twirled a one-hitter against Post University on April 25 and registered five outings with at least 10 strikeouts, including a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts against Molloy College on February 20. He was recognized with Chestnut Hill College's 2015 Male Athletic Director's Award at the annual Athletics Awards reception where he also took home the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) honor for a second straight season. Raia earned CACC All-Tournament honors after helping navigate the Griffins through a grueling CACC Championship Tournament and he leaves Chestnut Hill College as the school's all-time leader in wins (25), strikeouts (252), starts (42), innings (274), complete games (7), and shutouts (3).
