Reno and Fedora Afford Weekly CACC Honor Roll Accolades
New Haven, Conn. - (10/5/2015) – Following a 1-1 week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play, the Griffins placed two on the league’s Weekly Honor Roll as seniors, goalkeeper Kayla Reno (Pasadena, Md.) and midfielder Victoria Fedora (East McKeesport, Pa.) earned accolades. After suffering a 1-0 league loss to Wilmington University on Tuesday, September 29, Fedora led the Griffins in a 3-1 recovery against Dominican College on Saturday, October 3.
Chestnut Hill College (4-6, 2-5) was the victim of a bad bounce in a Tuesday night clash with Wilmington University as a bounding ball glanced off a Griffin in the box late in the second half, allowing the Wildcats to steal a 1-0 victory with a 79th-minute penalty kick (78:20). Reno who matched a career high with 11 saves, while the Griffin defense kept the Wildcats from mounting a serious threat until well into the second half.
The Griffins broke out of their recent scoring slumber in a big way on Saturday morning, erupting for three unanswered goals over the final 26:18 of a 3-1 victory over visiting Dominican College (NY). Off a well-played feed from Fedora, junior defender Annalyse Culp (Clayton, N.J.) broke the dam with the first goal of her career at 71:14. Later, Fedora pumped in the eventual game-winner, her first of the season, with 18:46 remaining as the Griffins added another late tally to snap a five-game skid and four-game shutout streak in style. Fedora (three shots) logged her fourth career multi-point game with a goal and an assist while Reno registered four saves to earn the win (4-6).
Chestnut Hill College has another morning match scheduled for next Saturday, October 10; this one is an 11:00 a.m. league contest at Bloomfield College.
