Josso’s CACC Conquests Merit Player of the Week Laurel; Siquiera Lands on Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (10/12/2015) – Posting a 5-1 mark over a 3-0 week for the Chestnut Hill College women’s tennis team, junior Laure-Anne Josso (Vannes, France) was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, the league announced this afternoon. Josso emerged victorious in all three of her number one singles contests against Philadelphia University (7-1), West Chester University (5-4), and University of the Sciences (USciences, 9-0), helping the Griffins remain unbeaten this fall. Freshman Daniela Siqueira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) warranted Honor Roll inclusion with a pair of shutout triumphs against the Devils.

The Griffins celebrated the 100th win for senior captain Iman Williams-Mulesa (Pickering, Ontario) in dominate fashion as they followed a brief century ceremony with a 7-1 CACC triumph over rival Philadelphia University on Tuesday, October 6. Paired with senior Axé Owens (Trenton, N.J.), Josso completed a doubles sweep of the Lady Rams with an 8-2 win in the top flight, then registered a 6-3, 6-0 result at number one singles.

Josso and Owens were upended in a fray with West Chester University on Friday, October 9, when the host Golden Rams surged out to a 3-1 lead. Josso narrowed the gap to 3-2 with her 6-0, 6-2, win at number one singles, but after a 7-5, 6-2, loss at number five singles, 4-2, the Griffins ended the match triumphantly with consecutive victories from Owens, Williams-Mulesa, and sophomore Lara Scholtze (Bod Homburg, Germany), 5-4.

The Scarlet and Gold defended their undefeated record on Saturday, October 10, this time collecting a CACC win in the process as they toppled USciences, 9-0, in their second league shutout of the season. The Devils (2-7, 0-5) fell behind early as senior Hayley Craskey (Aston, Pa.) and Siquiera combined for their first win of the season, taking the third doubles flight by an 8-0 final. With a 1-0 lead in hand, Chestnut Hill College (6-0, 4-0) advanced its advantage when Josso and Owens followed with a matching victory, 8-0, at number two doubles. After a sweep of doubles play, the points kept coming at number one singles with a 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) rally from Josso and succeeding Griffin wins at number four (Owens, W, 8-1), number three (Williams-Mulesa, W, 6-0, 6-0), and number six singles (Siqueira, W, 8-0).

Chestnut Hill College heads to the final three matches of their CACC season, first hosting Goldey-Beacom College in a 3:00 p.m. league match on Monday, October 12.
