McWade and Yiljep Mentioned on CACC Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. - (12/7/2015) – For their part in an 80-72 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph over Georgian Court University on Wednesday, December 2, sophomore forward Edward McWade (Wildwood, N.J.) and freshman forward Dakpe Yiljep (Samaru-Zaria, Nigeria) were recognized on this week’s CACC Honor Roll. McWade found himself in the right place at the right time all night long, accumulating a career-high 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal while Yiljep scored a career-high with 17 points, hitting 3-of-4 (.750) from long range while also recording a rebound and an assist
A three-headed monster comprised of McWade, Yiljep, and senior guard Luke Dickson (Pitman, N.J.) accelerated Chestnut Hill College (3-4, 1-0) to a 45-34 halftime lead over Georgian Court University (1-5, 0-3). Sophomore guard Demetrius Isaac (Philadelphia, Pa.) took the wheel first, handing out four assists while the Griffins’ Cerberus combined for 38 of Chestnut Hill College’s 45 first-half points. The Chestnut Hill College advantage topped out at 15 points, 40-25, late in the frame with McWade knocking down a three-pointer with 2:24 to play in the first half. Still, a quick rally by the Lions cut the deficit to eight points, 42-34 (0:26), before the halftime spread settled at 11, 45-34 (0:03), on a last possession three from Dickson.
After intermission the Lions continued their resurgence, cutting the Griffin lead to four points, 47-43, with 17:47 left to play. But back-to-back three-point plays from McWade and senior captain Noel Hightower (Easton, Pa.) brought Chestnut Hill College’s favor back to 10 points, 53-43 (16:15). The Lions threatened a couple times, cutting the lead to single digits four times before Yiljep returned to the limelight with six points in a seven-point rush that left the Griffin advantage at 13 points, 72-59, just after the four-minute mark (3:52). Georgian Court University never recovered, trailing the home team by eight points, 80-72, as the final horn sounded.
McWade was efficient, hitting 8-of-12 (.667) from the floor and 4-of-5 (.800) from the free throw line in his standout performance. Yiljep scored in double digits for the second time in his freshman year. He is currently shooting 41.4% (12-of-29) from three-point range, averaging 8.4 points per game (PPG).
The Chestnut Hill College men’s basketball team continues their CACC schedule on Tuesday, December 8, with an 8:00 p.m. league contest at Goldey-Beacom College.
