Kuhnen’s Record Game Versus Tigers Draws Spot on Weekly CACC Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. - (1/4/2016) – Turning in a career afternoon in the Griffins’ first contest of the New Year, junior forward Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.) earned a spot on this week’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Honor Roll. Kuhnen hit a record, seven three pointers on only 11 attempts (7-of-11, .636), to total a career-high 27 points in a 71-57 loss to Holy Family University on Sunday, January 4.

After a Kuhnen three pointer to start the second half, Holy Family University (9-5, 4-1) grew their advantage to double digits in the third quarter. Triggered by the defense of sophomore guard Kelly Giedemann (Turnersville, N.J.), the Tigers ensured Chestnut Hill College (3-9, 1-4) was left well in the rear view. She stole the ball on three straight possessions, increasing the Tiger lead to 14 points, 51-37, with 2:40 remaining in the frame and helping them keep the margin at 15 points, 55-40, by the end of the period. Chestnut Hill College (3-9, 1-4) never recovered, allowing the Tigers to expand the fourth-quarter deficit to 22 points, 70-48 (4:12), before the action settled on a 14-point spread, 71-57.

The free throw line was in frequent use, which helped the Griffins stay in it early (6-of-12, .500). In the first half, the Tigers shared the ball, balancing their attack behind seven points and four rebounds from senior center Kasey Woetzel (Wyckoff, N.J.). Kuhnen was her counterpart, hitting 3-of-4 (.750) from long range (nine points) while grabbing three rebounds in the half. In addition to her point production, Kuhnen finished the afternoon with six rebounds, an assist, a block, and a steal.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s basketball team returns to the road in search of a win. They head to Post University on Wednesday, January 6, for a 6:00 p.m. CACC contest.
