Trossi Collects First CACC Rookie of the Week Award
Â
New Haven, Conn. - (1/11/2016) – Freshman guard Mary Trossi (Somerset, N.J.) brought home Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Week honors for the first time this season as the Griffins floor general averaged 19.0 points-per-game (PPG), 6.5 rebounds-per-game (RPG), while providing seven assists and two steals in Chestnut Hill College league wins at Post University and Concordia College (NY). Trossi scored a career-high 25 points in addition to seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals in the Griffins’ 39-point, 83-44, victory versus the Eagles before finishing as one of four Griffins in double figures in a 69-61 win over the Clippers.
Â
Chestnut Hill College found their groove in Wednesday afternoon's contest at the Drubner Center, getting back in the win column with an 83-44 victory over CACC rival Post University. The win marks the Griffins' largest margin of victory since a 90-40 win (50 points) versus Washington Adventist University on November 15, 2010.
Â
Chestnut Hill College (4-9, 2-4) never gave Post University (0-14, 0-6) a chance in 40 minutes of league play, building a ten-point advantage, 10-0, in the opening eight minutes (2:11), and expanding their lead to 18 points, 39-21, by halftime. It was a three-headed attack for the Griffins, who assumed their halftime perch with 12 points from junior forward Caity Kuhnen (Binghamton, N.Y.), 11 points from Trossi, and 10 points from freshman forward Jaeda Wildgoose (Somerset, N.J.). It was Trossi's drive-and-kick and Wildgoose's paint play that set the stage for another Kuhnen shooting exposition. She hit two trifectas in the first half (2-of-5, .400) and all three of her second-half (3-of-3, 1.000) attempts to spur Chestnut Hill College to their colossal victory. Trossi finished as the Griffins lead scorer with 25 points.
Â
Knotted with Concordia College (NY) 29-29 at intermission, Chestnut Hill College turned to sophomore forward Nicole Parriski (Burlington, N.J.) who hit the Clippers up for nine points and six rebounds in a 40-point second half that separated the Griffins for a 69-61 CACC victory. Parriski finished with her first double-double of the season, totaling 15 points and 10 rebounds off the Griffin bench, joining three others in double figures, including Trossi who totaled 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists.
?The third quarter saw the turning of the tide as the Clippers lost control in a Chestnut Hill College (5-9, 3-4) storm that overcame a 35-31 (8:28) Concordia College (NY) (3-10, 1-6) lead to end the frame up 45-43. Parriski and Wildgoose paved the way early, trading paint points and free throws until the Griffins emerged for a 38-37 edge with five minutes (5:13) on the front end of a three-point play Trossi. Chestnut Hill College held onto the advantage at the end of the frame, narrowly leading Concordia College (NY) 45-43 after a last-second layup. In the fourth quarter, the Griffins looked to put the Clippers away early, again using the post play of Wildgoose and Parriski to forge double-digit lead, 57-47, with 6:50 remaining in the contest. Still, the Clippers’ fleeting rally brought the home team within two points, 59-47, by 4:21, but it soon faded as junior guard Brittany McDonough (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Parriski began the Griffins’ closing stretch of game-clinching free throws.

The Chestnut Hill College women’s basketball team returns to Sorgenti Arena on Tuesday, January 12, when they look to extend their current CACC win streak to three games in a 6:00 p.m. contest versus Nyack College.
