CACC Recognizes Keimig as Player and ?Defender of the Week, Reinert Returns to Honor Roll

New Haven, Conn. – (3/23/2016) – Playing great two-way lacrosse in last week’s games at Mercy College and versus the University of the District of Columbia, senior midfielder Emorie Keimig (Freeland, Md.) was recognized as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player and Defender of the Week. She totaled seven points, on five goals and two assists, while additionally offering six ground balls, five draws, and three caused turnovers to the Griffin cause. Freshman midfielder Julia Reinert (Bridgeport, Pa.) earned her third straight CACC Honor Roll, recording two goals, an assist, a ground ball, and two caused turnovers.

After four minutes of scoreless play against Mercy College on Tuesday, March 15, the Mavericks scored three times in the span of a minute to fuel a 6-0 halftime advantage and an eventual 11-4 win over Chestnut Hill College. Keimig recorded her fourth straight hat trick, scoring three of the Griffins' four second-half goals to bring her team-leading season total to 17. She added two ground balls, three draws, and a caused turnover to her string of three-goal games. Reinert recorded a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Attacking the net early and often on Thursday, March 17, Chestnut Hill College shared the ball and capitalized on their free position opportunities (5-of-6) to send the University of the District of Columbia home in a 21-5 defeat. With plenty of statistics to go around, the Griffins were led by a trio of five-point scorers in junior midfielder Rachel Perry (Gilbertsville, Pa.), junior midfielder Jacklyn O'Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.), and sophomore attack Julia Galantich (Clinton Corners, N.Y.).

An exchange of free position goals opened the scoring just past the 27-minute mark (26:47) of the first half, 1-1 at 22:44. But from there Chestnut Hill College (2-5) demonstrated their superior ability as they struck three times before the next Firebird tally at 15:02, 4-2, and outscored the visitors 14-4 in the first frame. With a running clock in the second half the Griffin goals kept coming, leaving a UDC (1-4) goal at 14:58, 18-5, as the only interruption in a 21-5 Scarlet and Gold victory. Keimig and Reinert each scored two goals with the former also contributing two assists, four ground balls, two draws, and two caused turnover while the latter added an assist to her tally.

The women's lacrosse team opens their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) schedule with their next contest; a 7:00 p.m. game versus Wilmington University on Tuesday, March 30.
