Behrens Earns Honorable Mention
For CACC Pitcher of the Week
 
New Haven, CT – (2/28/2011) – The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) recognized junior pitcher Rudy Behrens (Wallingford, CT) as an honorable mention for the Pitcher of the Week award after his performance in the Northeast Challenge. Behrens earned Chestnut Hill College a win in the nightcap of their season-opening doubleheader with Dowling College. He held the Golden Lions to five hits and an unearned run while striking out eight in his 6.2 innings.
 
Chestnut Hill College (1-3) opened their 2011 season with a weekend of competition in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, as participants in the Northeast Challenge. Dowling College out-slugged the Griffins to a 7-5 win in the first game at the Ripken Experience complex, but a Behrens evened the score in the nightcap. The Griffins led off the affair with a 2-0 advantage on a sacrifice fly from junior centerfielder Eric Blood (Perkasie, PA) and a heads-up base running effort from junior second baseman Jesse Daywalt (Phoenixville, PA). Behrens held the Golden Lions at bay until their final at-bat, when an error put a runner aboard. A double brought the run across, forcing the Griffins to turn the game over to senior pitcher Matt Casino (Port Chester, NY). He struck out the only batter he saw to collect his first save of the season.
 
The baseball team returns home to host Philadelphia University in a 3:00 p.m., non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 2. The Griffins will be opening their new home facility, Latshaw-McCarthy Field in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
