Campion Draws CACC Weekly Honor Roll Recognition For Damage in Doubleheader versus Devils
New Haven, Conn. – (4/11/2016) – Limited to only two contests due to last week’s inclement weather, senior first baseman Patrick Campion (Norristown, Pa.) packed as much offense as he could into one afternoon against the University of the Sciences (USciences) pitching staff. He went 4-for-9 in the league doubleheader, a performance that included a double, three home runs, nine runs-batted-in (RBI), and a pair of walks. His performance earned him his second appearance on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Weekly Honor Roll this season.
After an opening error by the USciences left fielder, Campion hit his first home run of the afternoon for Chestnut Hill College’s (15-14, 6-2) first two runs, 2-0. He then connected for a solo shot in the fifth inning to put the Griffins up 3-1 before the Devils rallied for late-inning runs with a seventh-inning sacrifice fly, 3-2, and a ninth-inning, two-out single, 3-3. They eventually would overcome the Griffins with a 10th-inning lead-off walk leading to the winning run, 4-3.
Campion recorded two hits (2-for-4) in the second game as well; a contest that saw Chestnut Hill College total 21 runs on 17 hits and one Devil error. His first hit was a second-inning, three-run home run that put the Griffins ahead 6-1 and the second was a two-run eighth-inning double that added the 18th and 19th tallies on the scoreboard. In between, he walked twice and knocked in a run with a fourth-inning grounder to short.
Campion currently ranks fifth in the CACC for RBI with 26; just two behind teammate senior left fielder Brendan Looby (Sewell, N.J.) (28). He is also tied for fifth in home runs (5) and tied for fifth in steals (11-for-16, .688). The Griffins slick-fielding first baseman (.992 Field%, 2 errors-228 put outs) has recorded 19 runs with a .308 (32-for-104) batting average, a .510 slugging percentage on ten extra-base hits, and a .388 on-base percentage thanks to 13 walks.
The Griffins continue their CACC schedule on Wednesday, April 13, when they host Dominican College in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
