Campbell and Covella Collect

CACC Recognition for Women’s Lacrosse

New Haven, CT – (3/7/2011) – Despite a 16-10 loss to Mercy College in their home opener, the Chestnut Hill College women’s lacrosse team was represented on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly release by attackers, freshman Kelly Campbell (Hatboro, PA) and sophomore Nicole Covella (Vineland, NJ). Campbell was recognized as the league’s Rookie of the Week after providing the first, two goals of her collegiate career against the Mavericks. Covella was an honorable mention for the Player of the Week award with five goals and an assist.

After trailing 8-4 at halftime, Chestnut Hill College (0-1) threatened with an early second-half run, 11-10. Covella scored four goals in a ten minute stretch to power the Griffins on the 5-2 streak. Unfortunately, Mercy College (1-0) responded with four unanswered tallies en route to claiming a six-goal victory, 16-10. She totaled five goals and an assist for six points in the loss; she also recorded three ground balls and three draw controls. Campbell netted the first, two goals of her collegiate career against the Mavericks, while hustling to a ground ball, three draws, and caused two turnovers.

The women’s lacrosse team welcomes the University of Bridgeport to campus for their next contest; a 6:00 p.m. affair on Tuesday, March 8.
