O’Leary and Leckonby Received CACC Weekly Honor Roll
New Haven, Conn. – (5/2/2016) – During the final week of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) regular-season play, Chestnut Hill College faced an undefeated Philadelphia University for the top spot in the CACC standings. Unfortunately the Lady Rams gained the upper hand for the upcoming CACC Championship Tournament as they escaped the Scarlet and Gold in a 10-9 victory. In the regular season non-conference finale against Molloy College, on Saturday, April 30, the Lions scored six straight goals and eventually led 7-2 at halftime, before a more competitive second half left the final margin just a goal higher, 16-10. For their efforts in those contest, junior midfielder Jacklyn O’Leary (East Meadow, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Hunter Leckonby (Charleston, S.C.) garnered Honor Roll recognition on the CACC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Report.
Battling for the CACC regular season championship and the top seed in the upcoming postseason tournament, Chestnut Hill College concluded their banner CACC season with an epic clash against cross-city rival Philadelphia University. Separated by more than a goal for roughly 15 minutes of the contest, the home team's game-winning tally, 10-9, came just before the six-minute mark (6:01). Four Griffins scored twice, and O’Leary once, in a team effort that also received significant contributions from junior attack Samantha Herron (Cinnaminson, N.J.), junior midfielder Lea Sanders (North Merrick, N.Y.), and junior goalkeeper Katie Joe Lang (Manassas, Va.).
After an opening free position goal from O’Leary, Molloy College took control of Saturday's season finale at Victory Field #1. The Lions scored six straight goals and eventually led 7-2 at halftime, before a more competitive second half left the final margin just a goal higher, 16-10. O'Leary totaled four goals in all, three coming on the free position shot, and the fourth unassisted. Beyond O'Leary and Keimig, the Griffins received a strong performance from Leckonby who recorded three ground balls, seven draws, and caused a turnover.
The Chestnut Hill College women's lacrosse team competes next on Saturday, May 7, when they travel to Georgian Court University for the CACC Championship Tournament. They will face the winner of Tuesday's quarterfinal matchup between #6 Wilmington University and #3 Georgian Court University in a 2:30 p.m. CACC Semifinal in Lakewood, New Jersey.
